Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. Do employees of moving companies have to be insured? Yes, you should verify that all the professional movers and packers are insured by the company you select. How should I move any hazardous items? We recommend that you dispose of any hazardous items such as paint, propane tanks and aerosols. Professional movers can’t move combustible or hazardous items because of the potential for fires or explosions. What are the options for coverage of any lost or damaged items during transit? You can choose your type and level of protection from the following: cash value liability, full replacement liability or weight based liability. What should I do if one of my items is damaged during the move? Professional movers and packers do their best to ensure all your belongings arrive safely to your destination. However, damage sometimes occurs. In this case, please email or call your moving company as soon as possible with the details. Do I need to provide lunch for my movers? Your moving professionals will need to eat at some point during the day. You don’t need to provide lunch, although doing so will reduce the time they require to drive to and from a local restaurant which will save you money. Should I disassemble my furniture before the move? You can do this if you have time, but it’s not required. If your movers need to dismantle any furniture, they will reassemble it in your new home. What is full-value coverage? If you purchase this type of coverage, your moving company will either replace a damaged or lost item with an article of similar kind and value, pay you for the replacement cost, repair the item or pay you the cost of any necessary repairs. Will my moving company charge me for materials? Most moving companies will provide quilted pads for protecting your furniture at no additional cost. However, you will most likely be charged for additional supplies such as tape, packing paper and boxes. What is an order for service? This is a signed written agreement authorizing your moving company to transport your goods. What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day? If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move. |
